Dana Point Festival of Whales 2010

imageThe Dana Point Festival of Whales is one of Orange County’s most exciting ocean events, celebrating the long tradition of whale watching along the California coast.  The 39th Annual Festival of Whales will take place over the next two weekends, March 6-7 & 13-14, 2010.

Festivities will begin at 10:00am on Saturday March 6th with an opening day parade along Pacific Coast Highway, from Selva Road to Golden Lantern.  This year’s theme is Magical Migration.  Awards will be given to the best floats and costumes!  Immediately following the parade will be the Street Faire and Farmers Market in La Plaza Park.  The Dana Outrigger Canoe Club Race will also take place on Saturday.  Don’t forget to check out the Baby Beach Sand Sculpting Competition on Sunday March 7th!

The festivities will continue the weekend of March 13th and 14th.  Special events include Mickey Munoz Paddle Surf Fiesta, the Rubber Ducky Race, and the Festival of Whales Grunion Run.

The Ocean Institute will be holding a variety of environmental activities for the kids and the Wyland Art Exhibition.

For those looking to get closer to the action, Dana Wharf will have whale watching excursions throughout the weekend and the Ocean Institute will have educational Marine Mammal Cruises.  Reservations recommended.
